Chile's PengWine Embraces Wine 2.0
November 09, 2007
November 9, 2007 – Kirkland, Wash. – Another new wine? Yes, but this one is from Chile and its being launched like no other. At the forefront of the Chilean Wine 2.0 revolution, the PengWine website features a video, blog, RSS feeds, and English/Spanish versions. Beginning November 14, 2007, consumers in select U.S. states will be able purchase PengWine direct online. The new bilingual website is the first of its kind and is designed to bring wine cultures together.
The launch initiative will include the latest features of Web 2.0 that allow consumers to interact with one another and the wine team. Consumers can experience the romance of the wine by viewing a “PengWine Affair”, a two-part video story that portrays the fun, passionate side of PengWine. The company is collaborating with Wine 2.0 leaders Inertia Beverage Group and The Wine Spies as well as independent wine bloggers around the world.
PengWine is produced in small batches in Chile’s renowned Maipo Valley. Each of the uniquely blended wines is named after a different penguin native to South America. The current release includes:
- 2005 Magellan - a Chardonnay with barely a hint of oak
- 2003 Rockhopper - a Cabernet Sauvignon blended with Carménère
- 2003 Gentoo - a Cabernet Sauvignon blended with a full body Shiraz
- 2003 Humboldt - a Cabernet Sauvignon with a touch of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc
Chris Milliken and Max Eyzaguirre, founders of PengWine are excited to partner with Inertia Beverage Group, in being the first to bring Chilean wine through Wine 2.0 channels. “Our goal is to produce unique, quality blends which can be enjoyed today or cellared for a few years,” said the partners. “With Wine 2.0 we have a new way to share not just the wine, but the story and our excitement about the new vintage.”
The web experience aims to educate and inform the novice and wine enthusiast alike on the qualities of Chilean wines and interact directly with the wine team like has never been possible before.
